The sharks smell blood
Harper has been granted a prorogue. I’m not happy about it, but there is a possibility I might get the consolation prize: a new Conservative party leader.
Replacing leaders is not a decision to be taken lightly. But if Conservatives are not at least seriously discussing the replacement of Stephen Harper before Parliament returns on Jan. 26, he truly has succeeded in creating a cult of personality
The Internet is already starting to campaign, with websites emerging in support of Jim Prentice and John Baird. Peter MacKay, former deputy leader of the Conservative party and once-leader of the Progressive Conservative party, might also be a contender.
Harper has already proven himself unwilling to compromise with other parties and has done serious damage to his party’s image, especially in Quebec. He is, arguably, the most right-wing Prime Minister Canada’s ever had and he seems far too willing to take his party in the same ideological direction of the Republican party (by the way, the GOP called, they want their talking points back). In the interest of holding on to power long enough to pass a budget when Parliament resumes in January, Harper may need to resign; if he doesn’t, he might even get kicked out.
Looks like the Liberals won’t be the only ones about to engage in a leadership smackdown. Muahaha!
